Extension of work to replace bridge – A38 at Berkeley

Gloucestershire County Council has advised that the programme of work to replace the railway bridge on the A38 at Berkeley has been extended.

Work was originally planned for completion in one phase, with the bridge due to be lifted on 10th and 11th September.

Unfortunately the County Council has had to extend the original programme because the extent of the work was greater than anticipated and it was not possible for the contractor to gain access to the track from Network Rail, for all of the times required to carry out the work.

Phase 1 of the work will now be completed and the traffic lights will be removed as soon as possible. This is currently expected to be early in October.

Gloucestershire County Council is now planning an additional phase of work to replace the bridge. The Project Team is working with Network Rail to plan for Phase 2 of the project at a date to be confirmed but expected to be in early 2017.

During Phase 2, a further road 10-day road closure will be required. The County Council intends to address traffic management issues highlighted during Phase 1 of the work, including the provision of signage to prevent the use of narrow lanes by HGVs during any further diversion period.
