Electric Picture House - Love Labour's Won (Live Broadcast) Posted: 9, 2014 12: 2 | Edit
Also known as Much Ado About Nothing.
Showing Live on Wednesday 4th March at 7pm.

Autumn 1918. A group of soldiers return from the trenches. The world-weary Benedick and his friend Claudio find themselves reacquainted with Beatrice and Hero. As memories of conflict give way to a life of parties and masked balls, Claudio and Hero fall madly, deeply in love, while Benedick and Beatrice reignite their own altogether more combative courtship.

Shakespeare's comic romance plays out amidst the brittle high spirits of a post-war house party, as youthful passions run riot, lovers are deceived and happiness is threatened – before peace ultimately wins out.

Christopher Luscombe directs the second of Shakespeare's matching pair of comedies that rejoice in our capacity to find love in the most unlikely places. Better known as Much Ado About Nothing, the play is performed under the title Love's Labour's Won, a name possibly attributed to it during Shakespeare's lifetime.

Electric Picture House - National Gallery documentary Posted: 2, 2015 14: 1 | Edit
Showing for one night only (7pm start) a look at London's National Gallery, one of the world's foremost art institutions, is itself portrayed as a brilliant work of art in this, Frederick Wiseman's 39th documentary and counting. Wiseman listens raptly as a panoply of docents decode the great canvases of Da Vinci, Rembrandt, and Turner; he visits with the museum's restorers as they use magnifying glasses, tiny eye-droppers, scalpels, and Q-tips to repair an infinitesimal chip; he attends administrative meetings in which senior executives do (polite) battle with younger ones who want the museum to become less stodgy and more welcoming to a larger cross-section of the public. But most of all, we experience the joy of spending time with the aforementioned masters as well as Vermeer and Caravaggio, Titian and Velázquez, Pissarro and Rubens, and listen to the connoisseurs who discourse upon the aesthetic, historical, religious and psychological underpinnings of these masterpieces.

One night only at 19:00 showing at the Electric Picture House, Wotton.

Broadcast date: Thursday 12 March 2015 Start time: 7pm India is surging with global ambition. But beyond the luxury hotels surrounding Mumbai airport lies a makeshift slum, full of people with plans of their own. Zehrunisa and her son Abdul aim to recycle enough rubbish to fund a proper house. Sunil, twelve and stunted, wants to eat until he's as tall as Kalu the thief. Asha seeks to steal government anti-poverty funds to turn herself into a 'first-class person', while her daughter Manju intends to become the slum's first female graduate. Electric Picture House - Royal Exchange presents Hamlet starring Maxine Peake Posted: 2, 2015 14: 1 | Edit
Showing on Tuesday 24th of March at 7pm and on Sunday 5th April at 7pm.

"From its sell-out run at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre comes this unique and critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare's tragic Hamlet. In this stripped-back, fresh and fast-paced version, BAFTA nominee Maxine Peake creates a Hamlet for now, giving a performance hailed as "delicately ferocious" by The Guardian and "a milestone Hamlet" by the Manchester Evening News.
Hamlet is Shakespeare's most iconic work. The play explodes with big ideas and is the ultimate story of loyalty, love, betrayal, murder and madness. Hamlet's father is dead and Denmark has crowned a new king. Consumed by grief, he struggles to exact revenge, with devastating consequences.
This groundbreaking stage production, directed by Sarah Frankcom, was the Royal Exchange's fastest-selling show in a decade. Alongside Maxine Peake as the eponymous prince, a number of other roles, including Polonious and Rosencrantz, are also played by women. Hamlet is brought to cinemas by director Margaret Williams, whose Written on Skin for the Royal Opera House/BBC won the Gramophone Contemporary Award and the Diapason d'or, and producers Anne Beresford and Debbie Gray, the team behind the highly successful cinema broadcast of Peter Grimes on Aldeburgh Beach."
