Chelsea Pensioner to meet visitors at St. John's Church, Charfield's, Summer Festival Posted: 6, 2014 23: 1 | Edit
Chelsea Pensioner Michael Allen will be special guest at this year's Summer Festival at St. John's Church Charfield, which takes place over the weekend of Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July.

Michael, who is an in-pensioner and full-time tour guide at Royal Hospital Chelsea, which houses former members of the British Army, will wear the distinctive Chelsea Pensioner's scarlet coat known to millions, during his visit. He will also be chatting to visitors about his life and times, including his foray into the UK charts in 2011 as part of "Britain's oldest boy band" when his Chelsea Pensioners group released its debut album Men in Scarlet, which reached the top 20.

As well as the opportunity to meet Michael, visitors on Saturday 5 will be able to enjoy the Summer Fete with stalls and games, fun and entertainment and the opportunity to spend time with Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Over the weekend St. John's Church will also play host to a flower festival, showcasing over 20 arrangements created by parishioners, Charfield schools and organisations and other churches in the Benefice.

The festival will end with a Songs of Praise service at St. John's Church at 6.00 p.m. on Sunday.

"We are thrilled that Michael will be joining us for the Saturday as part of a packed summer festival programme." says organiser Rosemarie Berry. ""This year's event is set to be our biggest yet and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors from Charfield and further afield. Entry is free and all are welcome."

For further information about the Summer Festival please call 07717 142072.
