Guide Front Cover A Welcome from the Mayor

To the townspeople of Wotton-under-Edge, we hope that you will find this new website useful and comprehensive. If you are a visitor, the Town Council warmly welcomes you to Wotton-under-Edge. We are delighted to share our thriving and historic town with you and hope you will enjoy your time here, however short or long - in fact many people who come for a short time end up spending the rest of their lives here! We hope you will find in Wotton the sort of sense of community which often seems only a nostalgic memory in other places.

We are proud of our status as a town and believe you can get many of the things you need in Wotton. The town is entirely within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is an ideal centre for exploring the countryside. It is also within easy reach of Gloucester, Cheltenham, Cirencester, Bristol and Bath. The M4 and M5 give car access further afield and there are good rail links from Kemble, Bristol Parkway and Temple Meads, and closest of all from Cam and Dursley.

The town is administered by the Wotton-under-Edge Town Council. Its offices are in the Civic Centre on the corner of Bradley Street and Haw Street, where there are also facilities for meetings, exhibitions, parties and other functions as well as the committee room where council meetings are held. There is also a Local Government One Stop Shop in the building which can provide information on all three tiers of local government - Gloucestershire County Council, Stroud District Council and Wotton Town Council and on other public bodies and community issues.
