Places to Visit

Wotton is an ideal base for visiting a whole number of attractions within easy reach. There is no need to detail the major cities of Bristol, Bath, Cheltenham and Gloucester, all of which are less than an hour's drive away.

Berkeley Castle and Jenner Museum, Berkeley.

Chavenage House, near Tetbury, Elizabethan Manor.

Cirencester: Roman town, Corinium Museum, amphitheatre, Abbey, church.

Dyrham Park, National Trust, late 17th century mansion, on A46 towards Bath.

Horton Court, National Trust, off A46, north of M4.

Newark Park, above Ozleworth: National Trust (tenanted).

Owlpen Manor: Tudor Manor House in its own valley hamlet with restaurant, formal gardens, walks (tel 01453 860261).

Ozleworth: the delightful church of St. Nicholas with its hexagonal tower is part of the Wotton living; it stands in the grounds of Ozleworth Park, recently beautifully restored.

Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (with newly opened visitor centre).

Westonbirt Arboretum: on A435 south of Tetbury.

Woodchester Mansion and Park: the famous unfinished mansion is sometimes open to the public (tel 01453 860661) and the park is National Trust, open all year, entrance from B4066 near Nympsfield.
