Catalytic Converter Thefts

26 May 2021

Please see a message from Stroud Local Policing Team below.

Over the last few months there has been an increase in thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles in the local area and force wide.

Catalytic converters contain precious metals and are attractive to thieves due to their high metal value. If it is stolen it renders the car almost undriveable and can be costly to repair.

These thieves will target cars at any time during the day or night so if you see someone acting suspiciously under a vehicle, please report it. Obtain as much information as possible, including any vehicle registrations.

Parking your car in a locked garage overnight.
Trying to park in a location that is well-lit and overlooked.
Avoid mounting your car on the kerb as it gives thieves easier access.
Installing CCTV to cover where your car is parked.
Marking your catalytic converter with a forensic marker which can make it harder to sell on.
