Remembrance Sunday 12th November 2023

Wotton-under-Edge Town Council and local representatives including the Royal British Legion are holding a Remembrance Parade and memorial ceremony on Sunday 12th November 2023.  There will be a simple route reducing the length of time for road closures with the Parade starting from the Chipping at 10.40am, which will proceed along Market Street, Long Street, and Church Street, arriving at the War Memorial in Old Town. The Civic Service will then take place at the memorial including the two minutes silence, playing of the National Anthem, and the laying of wreaths.

The parade will then continue along Culverhay to St Mary’s Parish Church where the parade will be dismissed. There will then be a short family friendly service at St Mary’s Church to follow to which all are very welcome.

At the War Memorial on Sunday (12th November), Wotton Silver Band will start with the Hymn – O God, Our Help In Ages Past.
Here are the words to the 4 verses – please share this message as much as possible. To be more environmentally friendly, there won’t be any hymn sheets on the day:
O God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come,
our shelter from the stormy blast,
and our eternal home.
Beneath the shadow of thy throne,
they saints have dwelt secure;
sufficient is thine arm alone,
and our defence is sure.
A thousand ages in thy sight
are like an evening gone;
short as the watch that ends the night
before the rising sun.
O God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come,
be thou our guard while troubles last,
and our eternal home.

Please be aware that the following roads will be closed and only access for emergency vehicles will be permitted. Please see below the times for the planned road closures.
