Stroud District Council Community Survey – Leisure and Wellbeing Review

Stroud District Council have commissioned a private company to undertake a Leisure and Wellbeing review. The review started in December 2020 and is due to finish in July 2021.

The purpose of the review is to develop the Leisure and Wellbeing strategy for the entire district looking at current leisure and wellbeing habits, along with aspirational ones. This will also include the facilities within the district.

The focus will be on:

  1. Physical activity levels (pre, during and aspirational post covid)
  2. Activities supporting the development of positive mental health and well being
  3. A review of venues including Stratford Park Leisure Centre, The Park, The Museum and The Pulse
  4. Exploring which community venues and organisations are currently used and how they can continue to develop and grow to support ongoing community leisure and wellbeing needs of the local residents
  5. Active travel and the use of outdoor space within the District is of particular importance especially around cycling, walking and other activities which all contribute to healthier lifestyles.

EU Settlement Scheme

The EU Settlement Scheme is open for applications for all EU, EEA (European Economic Area) and Swiss citizens (including any non-EU family members) who live in the UK and want to continue to have the right to live, work and study in the UK following Brexit.

The deadline for applying to the EU Settlement Scheme is 30 June 2021.

In Gloucestershire, Citizens Advice and Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS) are partnering with Gloucestershire County Council to offer free advice and help to any individuals or families applying to the EU Settlement Scheme.

Welcome to 2021. We all know how challenging 2020 was for charities and fundraising. We hope the Funding Bulletin has been of use to you and that will continue in 2021. Highlights

  • Stroud District Council is setting up a community lottery to benefit good causes in the area. Page 19
  • Community group, charities and grass root organisations can apply for funding to raise awareness of the Windrush Scheme, the Windrush Compensation Scheme or both. Page 32
  • BBC Children in Need small and main grants programme will be open from 18 February to 18 March. Page 35
  • The True Colours Trust which supports disabled children and children with life-limiting conditions and their families has re-opened its UK small grants programme. Page 49
  • The Department for Education has announced a short-term Covid Workforce Fund to support schools with costs of staff absences from 1 November to 31 December 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Page 61
  • The Ogden Trust School Partnerships programme offers funding and support to groups of schools that are committed to enhancing physics teaching and learning. Page 66
  • The deadline to apply to the Royal Institution Science in Schools Grant Scheme is 29 January. Page 66
  • The National Lottery’s Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage will support organisations to transition from lockdown and social distancing to resume business activity and welcome visitors back. Page 72
  • Cataloguing Grants from the National Archives are now open until 11 March. Page 76
  • The MSE Charity will be open for applications from 1 February. This grant round will focus on supporting young people under 25 to learn financial life skills, to enable them to grow and thrive in a difficult financial climate. Page 99
  • Black-led grassroot organisations and projects working to eliminate barriers to progress for black women and girls can apply to the Crown Fund, an initiative supported by Dove to help eradicate race-based discrimination and drive real and actionable change. Page 111
  • The Tech for Good 2021 ‘Build’ programme will enable organisations or partnerships to define, test and develop digital solutions over nine months that meet a social need or challenge. Page 127

Funding success
St Briavels PCC has told us about a grant they received from the Historic England Heritage at Risk Fund. They submitted an expression of interest, not expecting to be considered but to their surprise, were asked to complete a full application.  They were successful and can now start on much needed work.  They comment, “Our 900+ year old church will be in a good state for years to come as a result of this timely grant. Thank you for alerting us to the grants available.”
